The Maginot Line[edit | edit source]
The Maginot Line was a post-WW1 project to build a fortification system defending the eastern border of France towards Germany first, Italy second, and Luxembourg and Belgium third.
It can be argued having been a failure, as France was invaded, but still was considered as a major obstacle by the German High Command, who made a point of going around it.
Fascist Italiy, who (because of the Alps) did not have the option of going round, had to try taking the Line head-on and failed. Only the capitulation of France enabled their invasion of the South.
